UPPER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN

825 5th Avenue, Unit 17AB NY, 10065

Exceptional in every way…this state-of-the-art home on Fifth Avenue on a high floor with 40 feet of frontage directly overlooking Central Park has been gut renovated to the most exacting standards with a level of detailing and precision rarely seen. Inspiring views across the park to the skyline of Central Park West are framed through French doors with a Juliet balcony. The corner location of this jewel box apartment allows impressive views up the park to the north as well. 825 Fifth Avenue, between East 63rd and 64th Streets, sits on the most prestigious stretch of Fifth Avenue in the East 60s, moments from the Plaza Hotel and world-class shopping and dining including Cipriani and Bergdorf Goodman.

The elevator opens onto a landing shared by only one other apartment. The gracious entry lobby features flamed and brushed granite floors with brass detailing and paneled in white pine with a Japanese black pine finish, leads to the elegantly paneled oculus dining room and living room. East, north and west exposures are viewed through ten brand new custom-made windows, eight of which boast park views.

A paneled library/tv room leads to the leather paneled master suite, with its own window seat over-looking the park. The en-suite bathroom, is a symphony of Santorini marble slabs, Fortuny glass fixtures and features twin sinks and a large shower. All stone floors have radiant heat. The closets have been expertly engineered and outfitted to perfection. The bright, windowed kitchen features custom mahogany cabinetry framed in polished nickel, its own pantry, with honed Absolute Black stone surfaces and appliances by Wolf, Miele and Sub-Zero.

The second bedroom and bathroom have equally impressive open city views towards the east and north. There is also a laundry closet with washer/dryer by Bosch and its own storage area.

Solid mahogany doors with Nanz hardware, hand-finished plaster moldings and white oak chevron-patterned hardwood floors are featured throughout. The extensive 2-year gut renovation, orchestrated by Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects, includes state-of-the-art mechanicals, extensive soundproofing, Savant-controlled electronics, AV systems and shades, and impeccable appointments and finishes throughout, including extensive custom millwork and storage.

Built in 1927 by the renowned architect J.E.R. Carpenter, 825 Fifth Avenue is one of New York City’s most discerning and prestigious co-operative buildings and includes full-time doormen, porters, concierge, and a private dining room, as well as in-room service for residents. Pieds-a-terres and dogs are allowed. Financing is not permitted, and a 3% flip tax is paid by the buyer. A property of this caliber, both building and location, with exceptional views, and this level of move-in finish and quality, rarely exists on the market.

Striving To Be the Safest Community In the World

Safety & Security: Four generations of Ocean Reef families and their guests benefit from the safety and security that has been put into place to protect US Presidents and foreign dignitaries including Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, George Bush (41 & 43), Barack Obama, Mikhail Gorbachev and Francois Mitterrand. Each visit required state-of-the-art security that has stayed in place to protect us all.

So Long, Jim Taylor! (1935-2018)

John and I lost a dear friend, one of the greatest football players in the history of the game. Jim Taylor played on four N.F.L. championship teams with the Green Bay Packers of the 1960s. He became the first star in Coach Vince Lombardi’s dynasty to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He also scored the first rushing touchdown in Super Bowl history! Our relationship with Jim goes back over 25 years. He has been our guest at the Legends Invitational at Pebble Beach. Our daughters and our son-in-laws played golf with him at the event. We were delighted to host Jim and his wife, Helen, at our Skybox for the Super Bowl played in Miami (Green Bay vs. New Orleans Saints). We invited Jim and Helen to Ocean Reef on numerous occasions including the Reef Cup and a book signing. We will miss Jim very much. -Mary & John

NETWORKING ON & OFF THE REEF: NEW YORK ATHLETIC CLUB

John and I were delighted to initiate the reciprocal between the New York Athletic Club and Ocean Reef Club as part of Ocean Reef’s Affiliate Program. Ocean Reef Club and the New York Athletic Club, with its 9000 members, are two of the finest clubs in the world. Both are totally debt free. This fall John and I, along with the New York Athletic Club and Ocean Reef Club are hosting an invitation only reception at the New York Athletic Club. We also hosted hundreds of New York Athletic Club members at Ocean Reef. I am proud to have represented many of our friends, who are prominent members at the New York Athletic Club, in the purchase of properties at Ocean Reef. We will also be advertising my listings in the Winged Foot magazine throughout the coming season.

INHERITING EXPECTATIONS: NAVIGATING THE ESTATE PLANNING MINEFIELD

John & Mary Lee hosted an highly informative event featuring R. Hugh Magil, Executive Vice President Chief Fiduciary Offer of Northern Trust. The event took place at 121 Marina where guests were treated to Dom Pérignon and Hors d’ Oeuvres. The possession of wealth, including its inheritance, may unlock newfound opportunities for the individual as well as the family. Ideas for putting the new wealth into action abound, but so, too, do questions about responsibility, management, lifestyle and ultimately what to do with the wealth. Hugh share insights on the transfer of wealth across generations, as well as the familial and social expectations that often accompany gifts and inheritances. You can view the presentation here.
